As a Primary School Teacher and book lover, I love finding new books for my class. I therefore leap at every opportunity I get to discover new children’s authors. This book is perfectly timed, ready for Halloween!
How would you feel if your new school was full of Vampires, Werewolves, Wizards and worse?
Trixie Grimble is a perfectly ordinary girl. Unfortunately, the children at her new school are less than ordinary; Monstacademy is a school for monsters! She’s not even been there a week before the Vampires, Werewolves and more besides already hate her. It doesn’t help that she keeps embarrassing herself in lessons.
To make matters worse, Trixie gets caught up in an evil plan to get rid of all of the ordinary people down in the village. With only a vegetarian Vampire and a cursed Werewolf for support, can Trixie save the day or will she be expelled forever?
This book arrived at the perfect time. It got me in the mood for Autumn and Halloween. It is just the perfect size for my Year 3’s and those children looking for a lighter read.
The chapters in this book are the perfect size for a quick read aloud, or for independent reading and my class are certainly desperate for me to get it into our book corner so they can get their hands on it!
I may be an adult, but I still found myself snorting with laughter at the humour, and the snippets that I read out to my class had them giggling away and roaring with laughter (once my current class start, they can’t seem to stop!)
This book is funny, but has real friendship and some fantastic vocabulary that was great to talk about with to my class, you can tell the author is a teacher!
Honestly, my class and I had such fun reading this and they are desperate for me to get the next book in the series – highly recommend this if you are looking for a fun Halloween-y read!
Don’t forget, all of the Monstacademy series are available in both standard and dyslexia adapted format. Matt Beighton was born somewhere in the midlands in England during the heady days of the 1980s and continues to spend most of his days in the same shire. He is happily married with two young daughters who keep him very busy and suffer through the endless early drafts of his stories.
When he’s not writing, he teaches primary school (Kindergarten to some of you), messes around on canals in his inflatable kayak and supports his beloved Leicester City.
